Bryostatin 1 fails to mimic many effects caused by PMA and actually blocks some PMA-induced response in a variety of cells and tissues. Kraft, A.S., et al. The correct molecular weight for bryostatin I is 905.04. "Bryostatin, an activator of the calcium phospholipid-dependent protein kinase, blocks phorbol ester-induced differentiation of human promyelocytic leukemia cells HL-60."
"Demonstration of sub-nanomolar affinity of bryostatin 1 for the phorbol ester receptor in rat brain." Biochem. Pharmacol. 37: 4069-4073 (1988). Bryostatin 1 binds to and activates protein kinase C, but its biological effects differ greatly from those induced by other protein kinase C activators. Sold for laboratory or manufacturing purposes only; not for human, medical, veterinary, food, or household use. The true affinity of bryostatin 1 for PDBu binding site on PKC appears to be in the low picomolar range or lower. de Vries, D.J., et al.
